Which scanner to choose: The guide

Different types of 3D scanners are available: laser or structured light. The most accurate technologies enable an accuracy to 30 microns (0.03mm), enough to capture the finer details of the object to be scanned. These 3D scanners also enable you to scan larger objects than with a domestic scanner.

Domestic scanners are simple to use, usually by hand, simply scan the surface to be digitised in order to see the model on the screen, after editing or not, it is printable or editable using a 3D software package. These scanners have the advantage of being easy to use since they are relatively simple to handle.

Objects, figures, faces, people, children, art pieces, anything can be scanned with a 3D scanner. After you've purchased one, it's quick to get going. Professional scanners are slightly more complex to master and require more time learn how to achieve the best results. We offer training for professional 3D scanners .

Makershop3D advice for the purchase of a 3D scanner

To take it even further, the David spray enables you to coat the object to be scanned in 3D with a white film, ideal for scanning the most complex shapes and colours. If you opt for the SLS 2 or the SLS 3, the turntable allows a 360° scan from every angle.

If you want to use the 3D scanner for domestic use, we recommend a hand-held scanner which is easy to use and produces good quality. If however, you want to use a scanner for a professional application, we recommend the David Pro SLS 3D scanners.
